Notice that she punctuation "falls" to the left of the closest quotation mark. 

1.  "I love you," said Mikel.    
2.  She said, "I love you."
3.  "There are many reasons to love you," she said, "but I don't."
4.  "Does she love him?" he asked.
5.  "She does."
