Great conversationalists use deep questions to prompt meaningful discussion.
- Shallow (the opposite of deep) questions can be answered in one or two words.
- Example: "Is Jonas a boy or a girl?" or "Do you like Jonas?"
- Conversely, deep questions many have many possible answers and the answer goes beyond just a few words.
- Example: "Should Jonas have stepped up to protect the boy who was being punished?"
- As with all communication, try to use the most specific language possible!
- Example:
"Should he have tried to protect him?"becomes "Should Jonas have stepped up to protect the boy who was being punished?" - No pronouns! (
he, she, it) Use specific nouns. (Jonas, Ms. Hernandez, the pencil)
